2nd lativian braid

okay, got the 2nd one made, slight change in the process. notice the 2 rows of plain blue, 2 rows of the green, and then a hidden row (you can lift up the braid on the actual item, its hiding under there) thats alternate blue & green, starting with blue. a lativian braid is composed of the set up row, followed by the two purl rows with the string held in front. the set up row ends up being in the middle of the two purl rows and it needs to be in the same color pattern as the two purl rows.

and onward! kisses.

lativian braid

my first post, the one that inspired a blog, is about lativian (latvian?) braids. i found two wonderful sources on the web for this technique but thought i'd elaborate. im working on socks right now, because they're fast & small & not too hot for Texas weather. Also, i tink a lot, and its easier with socks. so. i started off with a ribbing cuff of 2 knit, 1 purl for appx. an inch, 5 rows of stockinette, 2 rows of my alternate color, one row back to the blue, one row of right slanting lativian braid, immediately followed by another row of left slanting braids.

the purl bumps inbetwixt these two braids were created by that one row of blue that followed the alternate color. (notice in the pic, you cant see this row of blue, the braid overshadows it) if i had gone straight to the braids with the alternative color, the purl bumps would've been much more visible & pink! ugh. love pink, but, hated the sight of the bumps.

and onward! heh.
